Inspire Education in Koganei

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: INSPIRE EDUCATION IN KOGANEI

In collaboration with Stanford University’s d.school and VIA (Volunteers in Asia), Oakland Digital advised and inspired a group of Japanese social entrepreneurs on a project titled, “Inspire Education in Koganei.”

The program, titled Exploring Social Innovation (ESI) brings together students and working professionals from Japan with students from Stanford and University of California, Berkeley. After ESI, participants can implement their plans in their local communities in Japan.

Here is a summary of the project “Inspire Education in Koganei” inspired by Oakland Digital.

The Mission
To inspire the minds of young educators by providing innovative educational tools that promote diversity, creativity, and opportunity.

The Vision
To eradicate social conformity to the rest of Japan and eventually the rest of the world.

  • In 5 years, our organization will directly reach 250 people total in Tokyo.
  • In 10 years, our impact will grow 5X (1,250 people) with a total influence of 9,000 people through the student-to-student service.

Target Demographic
Our target is young educators at Gakugei University in located in Koganei City. The reason why we chose Gakugei Uni is it’s famous for pedagogy so we expect to see many young teachers there. Koganei City where Gakugei Uni located is not big city so it’s also suitable for our project. In this way, we get access to the place 1) not big so easy to deal with at the beginning 2) easy to find the young educators to start our organization.

Our Services
What our organization does is go into universities and teach young fellows educational skills so that they can inspire others to do the same. Our core service is providing “tool box” thorough workshop series. “Tool box” is collective wisdom for young educators to promote diversity, creativity, and opportunity in their class rooms. Three examples:

  1. Improv
  2. Creative Dynamics Test (Personality test)
  3. Design rational
